Apr 20 2008     Mpio V10 Video Preview - Hands On

Well.... I have to say I'm very impressed!.
It took Mpio a long time to come back to us with one heck of an amazing unit, but finally I can say good job.

They Still need to fix/did they even think about it things but over all it's one heck of a player.

More images will come.

Specs:
OS  : Windows CE 5
CPU : Ti OMAP2
Screen : 3"  480X272
Audio : Mp3. Wma, AAC, OGG
Video : DivX, Dat, Vob, Mpg/Mpeg, Wmv, TS, ASP, Mp4, Avi
Image : Jpg, Png, Gif, Bmp

Over all:
There are somethings I would like Mpio to fix/improve on the unit.
1. album art
2. long press short press for short cuts (long press on + volume for next song etc)
3. ID3 browsing (I don't care but I know some people like my Wife love it)

Pros:
* Full Multitasking without getting out of running apps (very nice if you go between text music etc)
* 3" Wide screen, just superb, I think its in line with the top units on the market clean and crisp.
* Nice video format support and no need to convert anything!! just drag n drop and play your video
* Great Sound Quality
* Regular SD/SDHC support (I hate the mini and MicroSD's)
* Simple looking interface (Straightforward)

Cons:
* No ID3 browsing (I don't care but I know some people do)
* No Album art (I love my album art)
* Headphone jack location (you might want to buy an L adapter)

Didn't test: (I only go the unit with a PINK yes PINK case)
* TV Out

New ProductsLast week MPIO was among the companies who made Cnet's Worst DAP of 2007 list. It was a low moment for the Korean company, but this is one of their better ones. They just unveiled the V10 and it's easily one of the nicest looking PMP's I've seen in some time.

The V10 has a nice brushed metal casing and comes with either 4 or 8GB's plus an SDHC expansion slot. It has a 3" touchscreen display (480 x 272) and supports nearly every format under the sun, including MP3, WMA, Ogg, AAC, WMV, Divx, Xvid, MPEG-4, H.264, VOB, etc..It has a nice array of extras as well including a Dictionary, FM tuner, Voice recorder, and Text support. The device is running on WinCE 5.0 and has a really nice looking interface. Check out the preview video below (it's in Korean):

The V10 has quickly jumped to the front of my wish list but I doubt it'll be making a world tour. These are the moments I wish I had friends in Korea.

Feb 26 2008     Where have you been?

Off-Topic Hi Gang,

Well the biggest question I got in the PM box was where are you....
I guess I didn't have the time to get to the site...
New Job, Kid on the way, Wife with Kid on the way that like to nag :), Mpio not doing anything, ETC ETC ETC.

I do think the main reasons for me not updating the site or answering your questions was my other sites and personal business.
I know that this is not a good and valid response, but I must say i'm sorry for not taking time to maintain the site.

So i'm back and maybe with some luck Mpio will be back :)

Thanks again
Yeshai

Many of you DAP-philes will remember the Korean company MPIO. They've never reached the level of their fellow countrymen iriver, or Cowon, but their lineup was pretty Solid. And then, they sort of fell off the face of the earth. No goodbye letter, or anything! Just as they left, they have returned and have brought a couple new players with them. One of the most interesting is the MG300 shown here:

They debuted at this year's IFA event, but it fell under our radar. As you'll surely notice, the control scheme for this player is a bit of an oddity. Rather than using a single D-pad to navigate like most other players, they've decided that two would be better. A scheme that I shall call "Double-D-pads". We don't have the full specs for this player yet, but so far it's looking good.

  • 2. 4, or 8GB Capacity plus SDHC expansion
  • 2.4" Display (320 x 240)
  • Audio: MP3, WMA, APE, and FLAC
  • Video: AVI
  • FM Tuner, Voice Recorder, and Text Viewer

Unfortunately they won't have the global presence of their former self. They'll only be releasing their players in Korea for the foreseeable future. We'll bring you up to date, when more info is released.

New Products
mpio-mo100.jpg

MPIO has created some truly unique designs in the past, however their latest player does not hold the same originality which some would expect from Korea’s first MP3 manufacturer. The familiar form and interface of the MO100 comes from its clear resemblance to Grundig’s MPixx 2000 released earlier this year.

Even so the MO100 will still handle audio, video, and picture formats in the form of MP3, WMA, WAV, SMV, JPEG, and BMP. While, the 1.8-inch screen only has 128 x 160 pixels and displays 65k colors, FM radio recording and voice recording capabilities are also included. At the moment only a 1GB version can be purchased in Asia, but 2GB and 4GB versions are expected to follow.
